The No. 14 Oregon State women’s gymnastics team notched a win over No. 20 California in Sunday’s meet in Berkeley, Calif.
The Beavers (6-5) were led by senior Makayla Stambaugh’s 39.225 in all-around on their way to a team total of 196.050. Stambaugh was consistent in all four events, scoring at least a 9.775.
The Golden Bears (6-3) did not live up to their national ranking in the top 20, tallying a score of just 194.700 — more than a full point lower than last week’s performance against Stanford when Cal scored a 195.775.
OSU proved to be the better team Sunday across the board, having the top two individual performances in vault, uneven bars and beam.
The Beavers stood out on beam in particular. Junior Brittany Harris and senior Melanie Jones scored a 9.850, and sophomore Katelyn Ohlrich notched a 9.825, and finished as the top three individuals in the event. Five of the team’s six gymnastics scored at least a 9.800.
Two underclassmen saw their career-best scores on floor in the meet, as well. Sophomores Cerise Witherby (9.775) and Chelsea Tang (9.700) set their career highs on floor.
Sunday was the third consecutive meet on the road for Oregon State. The team’s run of four-straight road meets will conclude on Friday with a trip to Tempe, Ariz., where the Beavers will take on Arizona State.
