The public bathroom can be a wretched hive of germs and disgusting unmentionables. But an inability to hold liquids in and an increasing amount of time spent away from home can make school bathroom visits much more of a necessity. In my time here at Oregon State, I have made an effort to use the restroom in every building on campus, with the goal of finding the best ones to use when I need to go. Admittedly, this list is biased towards males as common decency prevented me from rating the women's restrooms, which was probably unnecessary anyway since they are all furnished with couches and smell like sunshine. And now, the list:

Worst Place To Be Alone: The Valley Library

Oftentimes, you don't want to see anybody, especially anybody you know, when you visit the oval office. So it may be no shocker that one of the most crowded buildings on campus will also have the most bathroom foot traffic. While it may have the best reading material,it's best to try elsewhere if you want some  solitude.

Best Place To Be Alone: Fairbanks Hall

This artsy building has much less traffic than more popular classroom halls on campus, so it can be a good place to duck into. Plus, there is some pretty nice art to examine before or after just not while doing your business.

Most High-Tech: Kelley Engineering Center

The saving grace of the otherwise unremarkable bathroom is the Dyson Airblade hand-dryer that feels like it will rip your hands clean off. If you have ever wanted to feel moisture violently separated from your skin, this is the place to do it.

Hardest to Find: Gilmore Hall

If you ever have to go in a hurry, avoid Gilmore, especially if you've never been in there before (like some ignorant liberal arts major). For a smaller building, it's tough to find the loo, especially since it's virtually unmarked and uncomfortably close to professors' offices.

Most Cramped: The Women's Building

With men's rooms obviously designed for pre-pubescent hobbits, the Women's Building is not conducive to moving more than three inches in any direction.

Most Spacious: Waldo Hall

As a former dorm, the bathrooms are not only cool to look at, but are remarkably large, allowing for plenty of room if you feel the need for some yoga.

Dirtiest: Dearborn Hall

I understand it can be hard to clean all the bathrooms every day, and naturally some will get more use than others; but Dearborn houses a pretty gnarly lavatory that will make you use your elbows to turn on the faucet.
