Freshman guard Jamie Weisner of the Oregon State women’s basketball team earns herself the title of The Daily Barometer Athlete of the Week with her standout performance in the Hardwood Tournament of Hope last week in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Weisner was a key player off the bench, averaging just over 22 minutes per game in the tournament.

In both the Beavers’ wins in Mexico — against University of California, Santa Barbara and Winthrop — Weisner provided key shots in clutch moments that help swing momentum the Beavers’ way.

Against UCSB, Weisner hit a deep shot from the corner that sparked a run for the Beavers at the end of the first half to close the lead to three points. She ended up with nine points and seven rebounds on the night.

In the game against Winthrop, she again put up another nine points for the Beavers. Weisner made the big plays that helped turn the momentum in the Beavers’ favor. She had quick spurt, putting up seven of her nine points in under three minutes of play, giving Oregon State its first lead since the first minute of the game.

After a 2-0 start, Oregon State fell to No. 7 Louisville 61-43 in the tournament championship. When Weisner drilled home a 3-pointer in the game against Louisville, it brought the Beavers to their closest margin at 27-23, before Louisville pulled away.

Weisner has been big for the Beavers in crucial moments in games, and has the potential to be one of the Beavers go-to players for long-range shots at important moments.

Pulling out those clutch shots for the Beavers last week in Mexico is why Weisner has earned the title of Barometer Athlete of the Week.
